34 Candles
Alianna Jaqua, choreographer/writer/performer and producer of ArtsyFartsyTheatre (From Buddha to Broadway), presents a new evening-length autobiographical comedy. Ã,Ã,ÂJaqua's dynamic and absurd use of story, dance, rock n roll, and video (by Alex Berry), reveals an evening of concocted personal fantasies and self-effacing realities.
34 Candles refers to the 1984 film Sixteen Candles, directed by John Hughes. Jaqua samples this film as well as other contemporary cultural touchstones like Mad Men and So You Think You Can Dance, commenting on the cultural power of art and entertainment. Her band, The New Waves, performs cover songs live, including The B52s' "Song for a Future Generation". Drawing source material from both fantasy and reality, Jaqua asks - how do our fantasies shape our real lives, and how do real life choices shape our dreams?
